How much can I claim?

If you are injured through someone else's fault, it is your right to claim compensation. It is hard to say exactly how much you can claim, because it always depends on your circumstances.

Compensation charts and calculators

A simple compensation table or chart can be a good starting point. Or, you can use our compensation calculator tool to get an estimate of how much you could get for different types of injuries.

Your personal circumstances

Remember though, that these should not be treated as definitive guides – this is because injuries affect different people in different ways.

For example, the amount of compensation awarded for a permanent ankle injury would likely be higher for a professional sports player than it would be for an office worker.

Also, if you were partly to blame for your injury, your compensation might be reduced to reflect this.

So, even for similar types of injuries, the compensation awarded might be different. When a claim goes to court, the judge will consider all the circumstances of your injury and how it affects you personally. We have put together a table using the Judicial Studies Board Guidelines reflecting the compensation amounts for previous cases on our compensation calculator page.
